Creative Projects
Betsy Schlesinger is passionate about creation, live performance and transmission. She has followed an original path in terms of both her musical choices and her musical activities with a varied discography, musical theater, musical direction, chamber music and accompaniment in addition to teaching.
Performance
Betsy’s current projects include a ciné-concert for piano four hands dedicated to works of Georges Méliès, with pianist and composer, Laurent Grynszpan, Jacques' extraordinary adventure by Lauren Fodor and the continuing development of the quartet funambule.
Recording Artist / Studio Musician
Working with composers has always been a priority for Betsy. The world of cinema and theater are also central to her artistic activities. Betsy combines these two passions to record for music libraries (Cézame, PennyBankTunes) beginning with the soundtrack for the film, Tzedek, les Justes (Marek Halter), followed by Recueil de Pierres vives, Souvenir de la Belle Epoque, Pictures of the Past, Piano Stories Romance & Elegance with composers Laurent Grynszpan, Joël Wissotzky, and Gilbert Sigrist. Her latest album is Rhapsody of Remembrance with music by Laurent Grynszpan (PennyBankTunes).
Coaching and Masterclasses
Accompanying young performing artists and students is an important part of Betsy’s journey. From 1986-2021, she taught piano at the École Koenig, Paris XV, where she was associate director beginning in 2011 before becoming the director in 2015, a position she held until 2021.
Betsy developed and directed several outreach programs including the participation of the school's piano students in the annual Week-end du Clavier Contemporain Festival at the Conservatoire Chopin Paris XV from 2013 to 2021. During these encounters, students had the opportunity to experience first-hand, contemporary works by Gérard Pesson, Florent Nagel and Henri Pousseur, as well as John Cage's "inside the piano" techniques and improvisation around silent film. In 2022 Betsy taught at the CRD Edgar Varèse in Gennevilliers.
Today, Betsy continues to teach, coaching both amateur and professional musicians, chamber music and solo piano.
