Tzedek, les Justes

Simple Stories

Tzedek, les Justes album cover

Fifty years after the Holocaust, Marek Halter transforms himself into a detective of Good and sets off in search of the Righteous, the men and women who risked their lives to save Jews. Why did they do it? Why didn't others?

These are the questions the filmmaker seeks to answer as his investigations take him from Paris to Copenhagen, Warsaw to Berlin, Amsterdam to Rome, Vilnius to Sarajevo, Istanbul to Tokyo.

This film, with its unforgettable faces and stories, shows that good is also an adventure, and that no situation, however inhuman, prevents people from retaining a measure of humanity.

Laurent Grynszpan composed the film's soundtrack. Betsy Schlesinger took part in the recording, notably on Simple Stories with cellist George Harpham.

Her work on the soundtrack led to the recording of Joël Wissotzky's Recueil de Pierres vives.
